How the Dallas wedding photographers saved a life
When Tyler Mitchell’s wife, Kristin, died in 2013, she was 27 years old.
Mitchell said he was at the wrong wedding, but Kristin’s fiancé, James, had left the state and had returned to New Jersey.
Mitchel said that while James and Kristin were out of state, Mitchel drove Kristin to a hospital to see her husband and they had sex.
Mitches wife was then taken to a funeral home in Fort Worth, Texas, and later died from her injuries.
“I was very upset,” Mitchell told ESPN.
“It was very clear to me that the man that she had fallen in love with and wanted to marry and had so much respect for, and I didn’t want that to happen.”
The couple’s wedding photographer, Kristen Mitchell, decided to use a digital camera and a smartphone to capture Mitchel and James kissing, the two had sex in front of a pool of cameras, and the couple drove to Dallas to attend Kristin Mitchell s funeral.
“The first photo I took was of the couple kissing in front a pool,” Mitches son, Kyle, told ESPN on Tuesday.
“They were sitting on a beach, and it was just beautiful.
It just made me feel special.”
The photos were taken and published by Mitchells wife, who had never seen them before.
He and Kristen were in Dallas to cover the funeral, and when he arrived in Fort Myers, he had his first close-up shot of the couples kiss.
“Kristen had this look on her face, like she was really happy,” Mitchel recalled.
“She said, ‘I think this is going to be the best photo I’ve ever taken.’
I was really shocked.
It was just a photo that I thought would make a statement.”
A few weeks later, Mitchell had a second close-ups of James and the woman’s kiss.
Kristin had to go to the hospital for a procedure and was told her husband had died of complications from the infection, but she recovered and was able to meet Mitchell in Dallas.
Mitcher and James were married in Dallas for eight months before they decided to move back to New York.
The couple has three daughters, ages 8 to 11, and their family has been in New York City for a number of years.
“James and Kristina are so excited to be back and we’re so thankful for the wonderful people who helped us,” Kyle Mitchell wrote on Twitter.
“We’re also excited that we can finally spend more time together.”
