New York City has a unique photo of Joseph Smith.

It is the first photo ever taken of the man and his father.

In 1826, Joseph Smith, then aged 18, and his family went to Nauvoo, Illinois to receive revelation and to start building the Mormon church.

The family was soon taken captive by the Missourians.

The photo shows Joseph and his brothers with a sword.

Joseph and Mary, Joseph’s wife, are seen wearing hats and a veil.

Joseph’s mother, Mary Jane, is seen sitting in the foreground.

The photograph was taken on February 14, 1826.
